Programming Update: Home Improvement on a Budget with Chip Wade

On Tuesday, March 8, over 400 patrons gathered at the Forsyth Conference Center for Home Improvement on a Budget with Chip Wade.

Chip talked about his experiences in the media beginning in 2007 when he lent his carpentry skills to the Atlanta team of HGTV’s Designed to Sell. Since then, he has appeared on HGTV’s Curb Appeal: The Block, Showdown, Design Star, Ellen’s Design Challenge, Oprah, and CNN. In addition, he is the host, designer, and executive producer of his Emmy Award-winning series, Elbow Room and he is also currently filming two new shows for HGTV and DIY.

Chip focused his presentation on the art of creating amazing living spaces with highlights from some of his favorite makeovers. He discussed the process of creating some of his most well-known projects for television, and specifically highlighted some of the projects featured on Elbow Room, including the popular indoor/outdoor couch, the baker’s kitchen, and the attic master suite. Some examples of these projects can be found here.

Chip also talked about his company, Wade Works Creative, and the future of design, including his new TV show, Wise Buys, with his wife, Pauli. As a CPA and Realtor, Pauli was able to discuss the ins and outs of home buying. She shared tips like looking for up-and-coming neighborhoods, failed flips, motivated sellers, and thinking outside of the box.

After Chip and Pauli finished the presentation, the audience had a chance to ask questions about home improvement and design before the night concluded with a meet-and-greet. Chip took the time to meet with each person in line and discuss their specific projects at home. Audience members brought photos and blueprints for him to see and shared challenges about their current and upcoming projects, as well as “wish list” projects. Chip offered expert advice to each person in line while giving his full attention and providing thorough responses.

Chip and Pauli live in south Forsyth and they were thrilled to be able to speak to their local community. As the night wrapped up, they expressed their love of Forsyth County and were so thankful to be a part of our library’s programming. Photos from the event are available on the FCPL Facebook Page.
