Star Wars fans of all ages will gather at the Hampton Park Library in north Forsyth from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11 to celebrate the fourth annual Star Wars Reads Day. Participation in the event is free and no advance registration is required.

“Star Wars Reads Day is a global event,” says Laura Bradley, Program Manager. “Libraries, book stores, comic book stores, and even national retailers participate in the event and work to celebrate the Star Wars legacy and to promote reading.”

Attendees are encouraged to wear their own Star Wars costumes and to participate in the costume parade. Other activities planned for the event include Empire- and Jedi-themed crafts, games, and trivia contests.

Costumed characters from the Georgia Garrison of the 501st Legion will also participate in a meet-and-greet with photo opportunities for attendees. The 501st Legion is an international organization of Star Wars fans that dress up in authentic-looking costumes they made themselves and volunteer to appear at charity events and public functions

“There’s so much buzz in the media right now regarding the new movie, Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, coming out in December, so we’re expecting that many fans of the series will want to come out and show off their new costumes and props,” says Bradley. “Star Wars Reads Day offers a chance for fans of the story to get together and have a great time at the library.”
