The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

Despereaux Tilling is a mouse who loves music, stories, and a princess named Pea. Roscuro is a rat who lives in darkness but covets a world filled with light. Miggery Sow is a slow-witted serving girl with a simple, impossible wish. These characters embark on a journey that leads them down into a horrible dungeon, up into a glittering castle, and ultimately into each other's lives. This is a tale of bravery in response to betrayal, being true to oneself and not succumbing to preconceived notions of who or what you should be, but above all it is a quest of hope and love. This story reads as an adventure tale with fast pacing and unique characters.  The 2003 recipient of the Newberry Medal, The Tale of Despereaux is the featured selection for the Page Turners book club for children in grades 3-5 at the Cumming Library on Thursday, March 26 at 4:00 p.m. Registration is recommend.
