Library Limelight: Kim Ottesen, Information Services Supervisor, Post Road Library

Library Limelight is intended to be a quick read to help FCPL patrons get to know our librarians, staff, and volunteers. We hope you enjoy learning about the people who make our libraries great!

Where is your hometown?

I was a military kid and moved frequently. Albuquerque, New Mexico is where I spent my teen and early adult years, so that is usually my go-to answer for this question.

How long have you been at FCPL?

It will be eight years in October.

What other jobs have you had at FCPL?

I was a Collection Support Aide and a Youth Specialist.

Why did you choose to work in a library?

I wholeheartedly believe in the mission and purpose of libraries. The staff who choose to work in libraries are thoughtful professionals who care about the community. I love working with all of you!

Describe your job in five words or less.

Listen, schedule, plan, program, inform

What is unique about your job?

The needs of my library often change the course of my day.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Working collaboratively with staff

What’s the most interesting place you’ve lived or traveled?

I traveled to Havana, Cuba last year and it was an amazing experience that I won’t forget.

What are your hobbies?

Reading, sewing, and planning vacations that may or may not happen

What are you reading right now?

The Girls by Emma Cline and The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom

Paper books, eBooks, or audiobooks?

All formats

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I am curious about nearly everything. Historical travel is my favorite kind of trip and I am lucky to be married to a fellow history buff. We also like to go on food tours as a way to get to know a city. I have met three fellow librarians on food tours!
