Staff Picks

We have a lot of young mystery fans at FCPL! Here are some great mysteries for older elementary and middle schoolers that are sure to keep even the most hardened mystery fans guessing to the very end.

Under the Egg by Laura Marx Fitzgerald 

When Theo's grandfather dies suddenly, his last words are "look under the egg...a treasure." Thus begins a mystery which catapults 13 year old Theo and her new friend Bodhi on an adventure across New York City to worn-torn Nazi Europe as Theo discovers her grandfather kept many secrets. The ending is just as satisfying as the journey to get there, with an extra twist even after the mystery has been solved.

Nooks and Crannies by Jessica Lawson 

If you're a fan of The Westing Game or Willy Wonka, this is the mystery for you! Six children are invited to a creepy English manor house. All six share a secret. One will find themselves rich beyond their wildest dreams. Lots of suspicious characters, a very likable pet mouse, some really terrible parents, and enough mysteries, twists, and turns to keep you guessing till the end!

The Odds of Getting Even by Sheila Turnage 

The third book in the Mo and Dale series finds the Desperado Detectives chasing Dale's good-for-nothing daddy throughout the quirky Southern town of Tupelo Landing, NC. If you loved Three Times Lucky and The Ghosts of Tupelo Landing, make sure to check out the next entry is this fabulous and funny mystery series. Lead detective Mo Lo Beau is one character not to be missed!
