Staff Picks - The Witchfinder's Sister by Beth Underdown

The Witchfinder's Sister is a work of historical fiction. The story is based on the real-life figure, Matthew Hopkins, who was responsible for the conviction of over a hundred women during the witch hunts which took place in England during the 1640's. Even though this book is fiction, it gives great insight into the reasons why women of this time period were suspected of witchcraft and how fear and ignorance were partly responsible for this horrific time in history.  This is a suspenseful read, but very informative and sad to consider the unnecessary suffering and loss of life that occurred.
