Staff Picks Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

Two of my favorite reads in 2022, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin and New Waves by Kevin Nguyen revolve around Generation Xers balancing long-term friendships, romantic misfires, and careers in the tech industry.

In Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, childhood friends reconnect as young adults to design elaborate games and virtual worlds together. Sam Masur is a shy Korean American with physical and emotional injuries, while Sadie Green comes from a wealthy Jewish family. The story chronicles three decades of their lifelong friendship that includes successes, failures, fallouts, reconciliations, and grief. I really enjoyed reading about the creative processes behind these fictional game designers’ ground-breaking achievements and their unbreakable connection. You don't need to be a gamer to appreciate this unique story. Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow was awarded the Goodreads Choice Award for 2022.

In New Waves by Kevin Nguyen, a young Asian American finds himself questioning everything he thought he knew about his recently deceased best friend when he meets a woman who knew their mutual friend only through social media.

Both novels raise fascinating questions about identity and modern relationships.
