Meet Shannan Wade, FCPL’s April Library Limelight!

Shannan began her journey with FCPL as a CSA. As a lifelong lover of books, she found it natural to apply for a job at the library shelving, taking care of the collection, and being surrounded by the very things that brought her so much joy and comfort as a child. After working in that position for about nine months, she made the jump to Youth Services.

She currently holds the title of Youth Specialist at Post Road, though some days the position takes on different forms. From Project Manager to Party Planner and Professional Problem-Solver to Program Promoter, Shannan sees it all. She even sometimes takes on the role of Patron Personal Assistant!

In her personal life, Shannan holds a few more titles: Wife and Mom of the Year. These two roles keep her extremely busy, but she does manage to prioritize Atlanta Braves baseball, cooking, and spoiling her two dogs, Frodo and Buttercup, and her grandcat, Soap. Oh, and don’t forget listening to audiobooks!

When it comes to being a Youth Specialist, programming for preschoolers and elementary kiddos is Shannan’s favorite element. She absolutely adores taking a broad theme and breaking it down into bite-size pieces that are easy for kiddos to digest, so ultimately they are able to leave with an understanding of something that was new to them when they walked in. Shannan also loves working alongside the VolunTEENs each summer, modeling different processes of planning and following through that may benefit them in their school careers and later on in life.

Another aspect of the job that Shannan appreciates is the time spent with PR coworkers. She enjoys the organic brainstorm sessions that happen between YS staff, who she describes as a tremendously supportive and unselfishly creative team. Shannan is very proud of their accomplishments and hard work.

As for a personal accomplishment, Shannan was a major part of this month’s Touch a Truck event at Fowler Park. From the community members who volunteered their time, to the families who came out to participate, to the absolutely gorgeous weather, the event was a hit! Shannan describes Touch a Truck as one of those times when every possible element of the day aligns to make a perfect experience for patrons, and she felt proud to be a part of it.

FCPL is proud to have Shannan Wade on its team!
