Meet Brooke West, FCPL's May Library Limelight!

Brooke West began a little over a year ago as the Information Services Supervisor at the Hampton Park Library, but FCPL is only a chapter in her story.

Brooke studied Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Georgia State University. While completing this degree, she was required to do an internship. Brooke chose to intern at a microscopic library in her hometown of Athens, GA, where she worked with a Spanish speaking community. She found joy in connecting people to the resources that they needed. Knowing that she wanted to pursue a master’s degree, she decided on Valdosta State University as her next stop. Brooke’s mother was also a big reader, so working in libraries is something that makes her feel connected to her.

There are many aspects of her current job that she enjoys, but Brooke LOVES working with the older population. She especially enjoys it when she gets a fist bump from an older person for helping them with technology or for finding them the perfect romance novel!

Speaking of romance novels…if you are ever in need of a romance recommendation, Brooke is your gal! Her favorite books include the Ice Planet Barbarians series by Ruby Dixon and Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell, which is where her love of romances first began. Her ideal setting for reading is with her partner on a terrace in Rome, Italy (specifically at sunset), with him reading serious nonfiction and her a romance novel, of course!

In addition to reading, Brooke enjoys traveling, Pilates, and playing video games (she is currently playing Tears of the Kingdom). Her hidden talent comes in the form of roller skating. Brooke thoroughly enjoys inline park skating and was even on a roller derby team for a year (derby name: Ice Queen).

Brooke has many accomplishments to be proud of, but her most recent includes knocking off destinations on her travel bucket list! Brooke and her partner love traveling to new places, so they were excited to visit Seattle last month. They were able to walk on an isolated beach on Whidbey Island, see seals, and look for unique pebbles.

FCPL is proud to have Brooke West on our team!
