Library Limelight: Lorraine Lane, Outreach Specialist, Library Headquarters

Library Limelight is intended to be a quick read to help FCPL patrons get to know our librarians, staff, and volunteers. We hope you enjoy learning about the people who make our libraries great!

Library Headquarters

Where is your hometown?
I am from Columbia, South Carolina, which is the home of my alma mater, the University of South Carolina.
How long have you been at FCPL?
I have had the privilege of working for the library for eight years.
What other jobs have you had at FCPL?
I started as a CSA at the Cumming branch and later moved into a Youth Specialist position.
Why did you choose to work in a library?
I loved visiting the library and wanted a job that was close to home.
Describe your job in five words or less.
The library on the go
What is unique about your job?
The variety of places that I get to visit is what is so unique about my job. One day, I could be at a senior living facility in the morning and a preschool in the afternoon. Later in the week, I am on a football field with the Pop•Up Library and then down on the shores of Lake Lanier doing YMCA camp.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I love my job and the opportunity I get every day to promote the library and all its amazing services. I really enjoy getting to know the diverse population that makes up our county.
What’s the most interesting place you’ve lived or traveled?
For our 25th wedding anniversary, my husband Greg planned a trip for us to Turks and Caicos. We enjoyed snorkeling in secluded coral reefs and eating amazing seafood on the beach.
What are your hobbies?
I love to do anything that keeps me outside. I enjoy hiking the North Georgia and Colorado mountains, as well as boating on Lake Lanier.
What are you reading right now?
Right now, I am reading The One Year Bible: Arranged in 365 Daily Readings, Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires, The Respect He Desperately Needs, Strands of Truth by Colleen Coble, and Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone by Brene Brown.
Paper books, eBooks, or audiobooks?
I like reading both fiction and non-fiction paper books while curled up with my cat, Cooper.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
My husband and I enjoy working with and encouraging young couples through premarital counseling at our church. We have been doing this for over 15 years.
