Library Limelight: Amy Whitten, Information Specialist, Hampton Park Library

Library Limelight is intended to be a quick read to help FCPL patrons get to know our librarians, staff, and volunteers. We hope you enjoy learning about the people who make our libraries great!

Where is your hometown?
My hometown is Naperville, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.
How long have you been at FCPL?
I have been at FCPL for 3 and a half years.
What other jobs have you had at FCPL?
This is my first position at FCPL.
Why did you choose to work in a library?
I have always loved books and reading, and I have spent many happy hours in libraries, so it is a great fit for me. I get to meet so many great people and they really appreciate the library's services. Plus, I love the fact that we do not have blaring music playing over and over and over.
Describe your job in five words or less.
Helping facilitate reading and learning.
What is unique about your job?
My job is unique because I get to do so many different kinds of work: teaching, guiding, recommending, answering, discussing, planning, researching, crafting, designing, listening, learning, promoting, marketing, and helping, and more.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is getting to know co-workers and patrons and being able to learn from both. I also like getting paid to plan and make crafts for our crafting programs.
What’s the most interesting place you’ve lived or traveled?
One of the most interesting places I have lived is near Philadelphia, where we were not too far from New York City, the Jersey Shore, Washington, D.C., and all the surrounding Mid-Atlantic states.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies are reading, crafting, and planning family adventures.
What are you reading right now?
I just started reading The Bookshop on the Shore by Jenny Colgan.
Paper books, eBooks, or audiobooks?
I like them all! Each one is ideal is certain situations.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
My son-in-law is an Army National Guard Aviator, so the photo shows me sitting in a Blackhawk helicopter (firmly on the ground!) taken when he graduated from flight school last June.
