To be honest I’d forgotten I had put this book on hold on Overdrive so it was a treat when I received the email advising it was ready for me last week. Overdrive gives you the option to deliver a book later if you’re not ready for it but I was ready to go! I downloaded the Overdrive app to my iPad right away and downloaded the book.
This book is the first in the Dublin Murder Squad series and opens with a flashback in a way that immediately snagged my attention. It involves an old missing children’s case as well as a current murder. Suspects abound as our protagonist detective battles with his own personal mental state and memories that are just out of reach. The detectives assigned to the present-day murder are thorough as they attempt to piece together the crime, always keeping in mind that it may be related to the original missing children’s case from years ago. French does a great job of showing the detailed work required for building a case using methods just inside of legal and not quite ethical. I recommend the book to those who enjoy a series or Irish setting and like to be kept guessing! I’ve already put the next book in the series on hold on Overdrive!
