Parents and caregivers, you made it through the first half of the school year!
Now it’s winter break and as happy as you are to have some quality time with the kids at home for the next few weeks, chances are it won’t be long until you hear the first cries of “I’m bored.”
Not to worry, we have some ideas to help you make your family’s winter break more fun and educational without breaking the bank.
First and foremost, sign up the kids (and yourself!) for our winter reading challenge. This year we have the most adorable collectible trading cards as incremental prizes for children. The cards are modeled after Pokémon cards and they feature our most popular library puppets. Kids are going to LOVE THEM.
This challenge is open NOW and continues until January 21, 2024.
It won’t take long for the kids to start earning those incremental prizes, so why not plan your next trip to the library around the time of a free event they’re sure to love?
How does a Winter Solstice Storytime & Glow-in-the-Dark Mini Golf sound? The whole family will have a blast at this event at the Cumming Library on Thursday, December 21 at 6:30 p.m.
Pre-K through 3rd graders will love the Old McDonald’s Down Home Holiday show presented by Bright Star Theater on Friday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cumming Library.

When you get home from the library, log the kids into LOTE4Kids so they can enjoy digital picture books in a variety of languages. Use this on your computer or through an app on your mobile device.
Did you know you can use your library card for access to free educational video streaming for kids with no ads? The Just for Kids streaming collection features all their favorites including Arthur, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Dinosaur Train, Wild Kratts, Sesame Street, and more! And yes, there’s also an app for that.
We hope this little survival guide gave you one or more ideas for things you can do for free with your library card this week! Let us know in the comments below if you’d like to see more content like this and/or which of these ideas you'll be exploring first.
