Library Limelight: Paula Glover, Promotions Specialist, Library Headquarters

Library Limelight is intended to be a quick read to help FCPL patrons get to know our librarians, staff, and volunteers. We hope you enjoy learning about the people who make our libraries great!

Paula Glover
Promotions Specialist
Library Headquarters

Where is your hometown?
Cumming, GA
How long have you been at FCPL?
Nearly six years
What other jobs have you had at FCPL?
This position is my first with the library.
Why did you choose to work in a library?
My grandmother first brought me to the library when it was located just off the square, on land now occupied by the Forsyth County Jail, and I marveled at the fact that I could check out as many books as my little hands could carry. I hope to have a small part in bringing that joy to other people in our community.
Describe your job in five words or less.
Write, read, edit, publish, repeat.
What is unique about your job?
I enjoy seeing my colleagues' creativity on display as they work to plan programs that will interest and engage our patrons. The challenging part of my work is creating the right message, delivering it at the right time, and getting it to the right people who can benefit the most from participating in that program.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I love being surrounded by books and stories every day. I’m among the first to learn about new books, new research databases, and new services. It’s exciting to share news about those things with our patrons.
What’s the most interesting place you’ve lived or traveled?
China is the most interesting place I’ve traveled. As part of my graduate studies, I visited businesses, factories, restaurants, and cultural sites in Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing, and Beijing. I even got to climb a portion of the Great Wall!
When my studies were complete, my husband and I moved to Erlangen, Germany on a corporate assignment. Erlangen is a bit like Cumming, with a small university, a vibrant shopping and dining district, and an annual fair. It's also close to the Nürnberg airport and the high-speed train system, so it was an excellent base for us to travel all over central and southern Europe.
What are your hobbies?
I love to read, of course! My family also loves a good roller coaster and we enjoy visiting theme parks. Right now, my favorite roller coaster is the Wild Eagle at Dollywood.
What are you reading right now?
Golden in Death by J.D. Robb
Paper books or eBooks?
Both. I love having my bookshelves at home lined with actual books, but I also keep a few books stored on my Kindle app so I’ve got something to read in my pocket at all times.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I write a monthly column for CummingLocal.com about literacy and cultural happenings in Forsyth County. If you’ve got an idea for a story, you can send me a message via the Library’s Facebook Page.
