Inspiring Illustrated Biographies for Women's History Month

The month of March serves as a time to honor the achievements and contributions made by women in the United States. Here are two inspiring biographies about amazing female athletes.

Born in Marion, South Carolina in 1900, Lucile (Ludy) Godbold was one of  fifteen American athletes selected to compete in the first Women's Olympics in 1922.  Long-Armed Ludy is an interesting look at Olympic history and a gold metal athlete who made history.         .

Trudy's Big Swim: How Gertrude Ederle Swam the English Channel and Took the World by Storm by Sue Macy; Illustrated by Matt Collins

This illustrated biography from our juvenile collection tells the exciting story of Gertrude Ederle’s swim across the twenty-one mile long English Channel in 1926. Despite choppy waters, poisonous jellylfish, and tides pulling her off course, Ederle set a new record for crossing the Channel, beating the record of the fastest male swimmer by almost two hours.
