Dr. Ashley Baker returns to Sharon Forks Library on Wednesday, October 22 to talk about her latest psychological suspense novel, The Ashes of Us. In this morally complex story, a clinical pathologist taps into his own dark impulses when his daughter asks him to take the life of the man who raped her. 

Dr. Baker says her stories usually begin with an idea: what if a daughter asked her father to do something reprehensible (The Ashes of Us) or what if there was a novel about a killer that didn't focus on the murderer. (The Furious Others

PoeFest at the Sharon Forks Library

Once upon a sunny morning, while we waited for autumn's glow,
The Sharon Forks Library brought us great lore.
They announced a fall program series in honor of Edgar Allan Poe,
For writers, poets, horror fanatics, and more,
Featuring publishing tips, a poetry slam, and frights galore!
So answer the tapping, tapping; open the chamber door.

If you've been missing all-things scary like me, then we have a program series for you! For the entire month of October, the Sharon Forks Library will be celebrating PoeFest in honor of the king of horror, Edgar Allan Poe.

Local Author Spotlight: Dr. Ashley Baker, Author of The Furious Others

 

The Furious Others by Ashley Baker

In her newly released novel The Furious Others, Dr. Ashley Baker describes the final hours in the lives of ten young women who have been the victims of a serial killer.  

Rather than telling the story from the perspective of the killer, The Furious Others flips the traditional horror novel format and begins in Purgatory, where the killer stands condemned for multiple murders. Chapter by chapter, the book reveals the sinister side of Jason LeDown through the eyes of his victims and the few lucky souls who survived their encounters with the brainy, awkward, and angry young man.

Local Author Spotlight: Dr. Kudo Eresia-Eke, Author of 25 Golden Words Vol 1: Inspirational Poems for Wisdom and Freedom

Dr. Kudo Eresia-Eke is an inspirational writer, teacher, and lyrical performance artist from Nigeria. Over the last few years, Sharon Forks library staff and patrons have gotten to know him better as Kudo, the friendly, soft-spoken, and contemplative poet who visits the library regularly to compose poetry.

Dr. Eresia-Eke’s poetry collection, 25 Golden Words Vol 1 was released in 2022 and his latest collection of poetry 25 Golden Words Vol 2 was released as an eBook this month. Both collections are filled with inspiring poems of precisely twenty-five words. While most of the poems have spiritual themes, others focus on everyday matters.
