Celebrating Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage: Stories from Asian American Immigrant Literature

Hear stories from Asian American immigrants told through popular literature at the Sharon Forks Library on Tuesday, May 24, at 7:00 p.m.

Dr. Mina Kyounghye Kwon will discuss stories by 20th-century Asian American immigrant authors. After giving a brief history of the Asian American experience, she will highlight certain notable works, such as John Okada's No-No Boy (1957), Maxine Hong Kingston's The Woman Warrior (1976), Chang-Rae Lee's Native Speaker (1995), Jhumpa Lahiri's Interpreter of Maladies (1999), and Suki Kim's The Interpreter (2003), among others. 

Dr. Mina Kyounghye Kwon is an Associate Professor in the English department at the University of North Georgia, where she teaches World Literature, Immigrant Literature, Women Writers' Literature, and Asian Literature & Film. 

This program is suitable for adults and teens. It will appeal to anyone interested in notable Asian American literature and to anyone looking for a good read! We hope to see you there!
