OverBOOKed to Read: Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley

Firekeeper's Daughter
by Angeline Boulley

When family tragedy strikes, eighteen-year-old Daunis Fontaine puts off her college dreams in order to care for her mother. Then she witnesses the murder of a close friend and becomes involved with an FBI investigation into drug trafficking in her community. As half-white and half-Ojibwe, Daunis has never quite fit into her hometown or the nearby Ojibwe reservation. However, Daunis' knowledge of both cultures makes her an invaluable part of the investigation.

Author Angeline Boulley is a member of the Sault Saint Marie Ojibwe tribe that features prominently in Firekeeper's Daughter and she highlights a number of issues that many tribal communities face.
