Introducing: BYO Book: Dialogues at Denmark

With a new library comes new and exciting programs! The Denmark Library is hosting a new program series called “BYO Book: Dialogues at Denmark”. The group meets once a month on Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

Unlike other book clubs, BYO Book meets to discuss a chosen topic instead of a single book title. This program is ideal for those who love reading, but reading is never a requirement! If you like learning about new subjects and are interested in getting new book recommendations then this is the place for you too.

The program alternates monthly between two different sessions: the Nonfiction Nook focuses on all things nonfiction, and the Literature Lounge which discusses fiction genres. Each session begins with a brief introduction of the topic or genre, then transitions into a group discussion.

In the Nonfiction Nook you can expect a short presentation hitting the highlights of the subject matter: important dates, some people of note, possibly even some fascinating examples (look out for our Art Crime session!). Then it’s time for everyone to share the books they have read on the subject, their highlights, takeaways, and recommendations.

The Literature Lounge focuses each session on a different genre so the introduction will help define these sometimes murky book categories. Participants will learn about common storytelling techniques, tropes, and the most popular authors that write in that genre. Then all participants will get the opportunity to share the books they have read - or hope to read!

While we’re no ordinary book club, you can find more information on the Adult Book Clubs page on ForsythPL.org.

Take a peek at our upcoming sessions.

May 18 – Literature Lounge: Space Opera

June 22 – Nonfiction Nook: Art Crime

July 20 – Literature Lounge: Magical Realism

August 17 – Nonfiction Nook: Hurricane Katrina

Join us on Sundays at Denmark for these great discussions!

Warning: You may end up leaving with even more books on your TBR list!
