Staff Picks: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des RĂªves, and it is only open at night.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus follows Marco and Celia, young magicians who must battle each other in a game where they are pawns and agents, lovers and rivals. With elements of magical realism, romance, history, fantasy and suspense, the text meanders back and forth in time and place but never loses the mood. I especially recommend the audio version of The Night Circus. Narrated by the incomparable Jim Dale, his rich voice and nuanced reading is the perfect match for this book’s style which is a magical, dreamy delight of genre-blending.

If you enjoyed the movie The Greatest Showman or the TV show The Magicians try The Night Circus, available as an eBook or eAudiobook from FCPL's digital catalog.  For fantasy fiction fans, I also recommend Lev Grossman's book The Magicians also available as an eBook or eAudiobook. The Libby app can help patrons get started enjoying FCPL's digital catalog
