February 2021 Reading Challenge- Kids' Book Spotlight- Teen Books

Even our youngest readers can join FCPL's 2021 Reading Challenge! Complete February's challenge by checking out these great books that were made into television shows or movies. 

Teen Middle (Grades 6-8)

When a twelve-year-old evil genius tries to restore his family fortune by capturing a fairy and demanding a ransom in gold, the fairies fight back with magic, technology, and a particularly nasty troll.

The television series, Artemis Fowl, released in 2020 and can be found on Disney+.

Accompanied by her daemon, Lyra Belacqua sets out to prevent her best friend and other kidnapped children from becoming the subject of gruesome experiments in the Far North.

The series, His Dark Materials (2019), based on this and the other books in Pullman's series can be found on HBO Max.

The Maze Runner
by James Dashner

Sixteen-year-old Thomas wakes up with no memory in the middle of a maze and realizes he must work with the community in which he finds himself if he is to escape.

The movie, The Maze Runner (2014), can be found on Amazon Prime Video. 



Teen High (Grades 9-12)

Suddenly able to see demons and the Shadowhunters who are dedicated to returning them to their own dimension, fifteen-year-old Clary Fray is drawn into this bizzare world when her mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a monster.

This series was adapted into both a movie, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013) and a TV series, Shadowhunters (2016-2019), which can be found on the Freeform channel. 

To All the Boys I've Loved Before
by Jenny Han

Lara Jean's love life goes from imaginary to out of control. What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them...all at once? Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren't love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she's written.
