Library Limelight: Christine Conroy, Youth Specialist

Library Limelight is intended to be a quick read to help FCPL patrons get to know our librarians, staff, and volunteers. We hope you enjoy learning about the people who make our libraries great!

Name: Christine Conroy
Position: Youth Specialist
Location: Cumming Library

Where is your hometown?

Westbury, NY

How long have you been at FCPL?

A little over two years.

What other jobs have you had at FCPL?

This is the only position I have held at FCPL.

Why did you choose to work in a library?

It's a great place to share my passion for literature and books.

Describe your job in five words or less.

Inspiring literacy through sharing books.

What is unique about your job?

You really need to be flexible. Each and every day is different and you need to learn and adapt to new challenges and situations that occur.

What is your favorite part of your job?

This answer is very similar to that of the previous question. I love challenges and I love learning new things! And that is something I experience every day here at FCPL. Also, I have had the opportunity to work at two different branches and I absolutely adore my coworkers at both branches. Every one of them is creative, patient, kind and knowledgeable.

What’s the most interesting place you’ve lived or traveled?

When I was twelve my mom drove across the US. We took the southern route one way and the northern route the other. It was a great experience! I think the Grand Canyon at sunset was the most beautiful thing about the trip.

What are your hobbies?

How long have you got?!?! I just love keeping busy! My farm does take up a bit of my days but I do manage to read, read cookbooks, knit, crochet, bake, cook, paint ceramics, game, exercise and horseback ride.

What are you reading right now?

Crazy Sexy Juice: 100+ Simple Juice, Smoothie & Nut Milk Recipes to Supercharge Your Health & the audiobook version of The Sandman by Neil Gaiman.

Paper books, eBooks, or audiobooks?

Paper or Audiobook… eBook as last resort.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I will forever be grateful for the support that my coworkers and HR have given me over the past couple of years. Especially during the end of 2021, which was an extremely difficult time for me, everyone was so supportive. It really took a load off my mind knowing that everyone at the Cumming Library had my back. FCPL is truly filled with wonderful people.

Editor's Note:
Christine made a whole series of educational (and highly entertaining!) "On the Farm" videos for FCPL in 2020-2021. You can see the whole series on this YouTube playlist. And don't miss Christine's breakout performance as a fairytale traffic reporter covering a sheep stampede in Post Road Library's Summer Reading Fun 2020 outreach video
