Meet Brooke Richards, FCPL's July Library Limelight!

Today, we are spotlighting Brooke Richards, whose enthusiasm for libraries and learning is absolutely contagious to patrons and staff alike!

Basking in the beauty of Hidden Lake in Glacier National Park

Brooke has been with FCPL for five fantastic years, starting as an Information Services Specialist at the Cumming Library and quickly moving into the role of Circulation Supervisor at the Post Road Library. She currently serves as the Information Services Supervisor at the Post Road Library and finds joy in helping others navigate their career path. Brooke says, “My favorite part is working with staff. I've had the opportunity to work with so many people and watch new employees find a career in libraries. I am grateful to have a job that allows me to shine a spotlight on others and help them reach their goals.”

When we asked Brooke to sum up her job in just a few words, she said, “Teaching people to love libraries.” She really nailed it! Although she grew up surrounded by books, it wasn't until later that Brooke realized libraries could be more than just a childhood hangout – they could be a career! She was looking for a different job when a friend told her that she was considering getting her MLIS (Master in Library and Information Science). After that, Brooke was inspired to get a job at her local library and fell in love! Brooke says she felt like a kid again, getting to spend all day at the library with books and people who love them. The rest is history!

Brooke is from Gainesville, Georgia, but moved to Ellijay after getting married (on Pi Day!) in 2020. When she’s not spreading library love, Brooke enjoys reading culinary cozy mysteries, practicing yoga, painting her nails, baking, and crafting. Her favorite book of all time is Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain by John J. Ratey.

So next time you're at Post Road Library, keep an eye out for Brooke and make sure to tell her a joke. Her laugh is almost as contagious as her library love!
