Today, we are spotlighting Brooke Richards, whose enthusiasm for libraries and learning is absolutely contagious to patrons and staff alike!

When we asked Brooke to sum up her job in just a few words, she said, “Teaching people to love libraries.” She really nailed it! Although she grew up surrounded by books, it wasn't until later that Brooke realized libraries could be more than just a childhood hangout – they could be a career! She was looking for a different job when a friend told her that she was considering getting her MLIS (Master in Library and Information Science). After that, Brooke was inspired to get a job at her local library and fell in love! Brooke says she felt like a kid again, getting to spend all day at the library with books and people who love them. The rest is history!

Brooke is from Gainesville, Georgia, but moved to Ellijay after getting married (on Pi Day!) in 2020. When she’s not spreading library love, Brooke enjoys reading culinary cozy mysteries, practicing yoga, painting her nails, baking, and crafting. Her favorite book of all time is Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain by John J. Ratey.
So next time you're at Post Road Library, keep an eye out for Brooke and make sure to tell her a joke. Her laugh is almost as contagious as her library love!
