By happy accident, three of the books I've been most anticipating reading this summer arrived on the hold shelf for me on the same day: Under the Bridge by Rebecca Godfrey, The Guncle Abroad by Steven Rowley, and You Like it Darker by Stephen King.
What else can a booklover do but check them all out and try to binge read them before the due date?
Fans of popular authors and trending titles can probably relate to this bibliophile dilemma.
For me, no other author compares to the master of horror. Each time I open a Stephen King book, I know I'll be mesmerized by King's depictions of scary happenings in spooky small towns. King's latest book, You Like it Darker, is a collection of short stories reminiscent of The Twilight Zone television show. "Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream" and "The Answer Man" were my favorite stories in this collection.
After watching the Hulu series Under the Bridge, I became obsessed with the tragic story of Reena Virk, a Canadian middle school student who was the victim of violence at the hands of her middle school classmates in 1997. I had to know more about the case and its ramifications. If you’re a fan of true crime, check out Under the Bridge or look for the documentary on Hulu.
Former sitcom star, Patrick O'Hara is once again charged with caring for his young niece and nephew, Maisie and Grant, this time on a European vacation. As much as I wanted to stay home reading to find out what the gang was up to, I knew I wouldn't be able to finish the book before the due date. Reluctantly, only a few chapters into the story, I returned The Guncle Returns to the library so that the next patron in line could enjoy it while I patiently wait my turn again. Based on the waitlist for the book, I'm not the only one who enjoys Steven Rowley's The Guncle series.
