Color Our World Reading Suggestions for Young Readers

Forsyth County Public Library's Summer Reading Fun theme is Color Our World. Here are few of the colorful books in our collection that young readers will enjoy.

The World Needs More Purple People by Kristen Bell and Benjamin Hart; Illustrated by Daniel Wiseman

Purple people ask questions, laugh a lot, use their voices and work hard. Penny Purple makes a compelling argurment for being a purple person and for just being yourself in this thoughtful picture book by Kristen Bell and Benjamin Hart. Dynamic illustrations by Daniel Wiseman show purple people of all ages acting as everyday superheroes by learning, building, laughing, and sharing. 



Green: The Story of Plant Life on Our Planet by Nicola Davies; Illustrated by Emily Sutton

Green: The Story of Plant Life on Our Planet explains the relationship between plants and animals and explains terms like microbes, photosynthesis, and fossil fuels in ways that young readers can easily understand. Colorful artwork by Emily Sutton reveals how earth may have looked billions of years ago and different environments on earth today. 

Aspiring biologists, climatologists, and naturalists will enjoy this informative nonfiction picture book.  



Pink is for Blobfish: Discovering the World's Perfectly Pink Animals by Jess Keating

Did you know that pink sea stars can can shed an arm to escape from predators - and they can grow a new arm if they lose one? 

Pink is for Blobfish includes interesting facts and photographs of unusual animals like seahorses, hairy squat lobsters, roseate spoonbills, Amazon river dolphins, Hopkins' rose nudibranchs, naked mole rats, hippopotamuses, and, of course, blobfish.  


Pink is for Blobfish is part of the World of Weird Animals series that includes Big as a Giant SnailWhat Makes a MonsterGross as a Snot Otter, and Cute as an Axolotl from our juvenile nonfiction collection.  

Visit any Forsyth County Public Library to sign up for Summer Reading Fun and take part in summer programs for all ages. Library events are open to the public, free to attend, and all supplies are provided. Check out our digital Summer at Forsyth County Public Library magazine or pick up a copy at any branch. Please note that some programs require advance registration.
