Meet Payton—FCPL's Latest Library Limelight!

Our latest FCPL staff rockstar in the Library Limelight is Valdosta-born Payton Jenson! As a former Collection Support Aide (CSA) at Hampton Park Library, she had the unique task of checking in every book by hand, and enjoyed serving as the “first line of defense when finding damaged items.” While it may seem meticulous to others, she finds genuine joy in being hands-on with the materials, and feels like she is able to gather a deep understanding of what our patrons enjoy reading. Payton greatly valued her experience at Hampton Park Library, and is excited to have recently joined the Outreach Department as the team’s first ever Outreach Collection Support Aide (OCSA)!

Payton shifted from the healthcare industry to the library with the intention of being surrounded by creative individuals, and takes honor in being a part of such an invaluable part of the community. Her excitement for the library system grew as a child while attending storytimes and checking out her favorite books at Brooks County Public Library in Quitman, Georgia.

While she spent some time in South Georgia, she has lived in neighboring North Georgia towns for most of her life with her husband and two boys. When she is not at work, she enjoys hiking, swimming, and is in the process of learning how to knit. (Which will include knitting a sweater for Branch Manger Ross of course.)

If she is not hiking a local trail, you can find her taking amazing nature-filled vacations! One of her favorite moments was hiking the Maroon Bells near Aspen, Colorado with her husband. They also visited the Stanley Hotel which was Stephen King's inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Another memorable trip was Grand Cayman, where her two kiddos snorkeled with sea turtles!

And of course her most important hobby is reading! As a true CSA she mostly reads paperbacks, and will gravitate towards audiobooks every now and then for convenience. She loves a good scare, and is currently reading The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.
