Scarecrow Festival and Fall Storywalk at Cumming Library

The Fourth Annual Scarecrow Festival and Fall Storywalk is now open and ready for patrons to visit in The Secret Garden, located behind the Cumming Library.

A Storywalk allows garden visitors to read a children’s book page-by-page as they stroll through the garden and look at each mounted page staggered throughout the space. Storywalks encourage literacy and outdoor family time.

The current featured book is Pick a Circle, Gather Squares: A Fall Harvest of Shapes by Felicia Sanzari Chernesky. The book depicts a harvest hayride at pumpkin farm, where a family finds circles, squares, ovals, and other shapes all around. The story promotes interactive counting and searching for the different shapes within each illustration.

The FCPL Friends and Advocates have once again contributed an adorable scarecrow scene and the Forsyth Master Gardeners participate each year by beautifully decorating The Secret Garden for fall with pumpkins, corn, and mums. The Master Gardeners also build a scarecrow to join those designed and constructed by the Youth Services team.

Stop by and visit our lovely garden with its spirit of autumn displays!
